Experience

Mr. Carruth has been with McCormick Barstow since 1966. During that period of time, he has handled all types of litigated matters and in more recent years, major litigated matters. He has tried to verdict approximately 200 jury trials. Most of his cases have been on behalf of defendants, although occasionally he has represented plaintiffs. He has tried to verdict products liability cases, medical malpractice cases, lawyer malpractice cases, architectural malpractice cases, public entity liability cases, bad faith cases, business tort cases, breach of contract cases, wrongful termination cases, sexual harassment cases, real estate broker negligence cases, and various other major matters. Mr. Carruth was raised in the San Joaquin Valley area and has lived there all of his life with the exception of time away for school and in the armed services. Mr. Carruth was a Captain in the United States Army Reserve being honorably discharged in 1969.

Honors and Awards

Mr. Carruth is AV rated with Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Carruth was selected for inclusion in the Northern California Super Lawyers list (2004-2010) for his primary area of practice in Business Litigation. Mr. Carruth serves on the State Bar of California’s Board of Governors for District 5 (2009-2012). Mr. Carruth was appointed to the Eastern District Advisory Committee which is responsible for screening, interviewing and recommending finalists for the positions of U.S. District Court Judge, U.S. Attorney, and U.S. Marshal.

Professional Associations

Mr. Carruth was elected a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1982. He was elected as a founding member of the San Joaquin Valley Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and served as its first president in the years 1973 and 1974. He holds the highest rank of Diplomate in that organization. Mr. Carruth was selected as Trial Lawyer of The Year for the State of California by Cal-ABOTA in 1997. He has been active in the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California which includes all counties north of the Los Angeles County line and also northern Nevada. In 1982, Mr. Carruth served as president of that organization, and in prior years served in all of its offices.

Mr. Carruth has been a speaker on various CEB programs, ABOTA Programs, Business Trial Lawyers Association programs, and also on programs given by the Northern California Association of Defense Counsel.
